Young World Faces
Mission Statement
“YOUNG WORLD FACES is a transformational movement exemplified through my contemporary photography and experiential activations.
I created these images to inspire the revelation of human stories that help citizens of every nation recognize, not only their own beauty but our global commonality.
YOUNG WORLD FACES endeavours to set a new standard for human acceptance by highlighting our similarities in an attempt to achieve the mutually beneficial goal of eradicating war, injustice, prejudice, and negativity, all derived from our incorrectly perceived differences.” - Robert Young
As seen at the Royal Ontario Museum, Pan American Games, El Clasíco Miami, and the Queens Park Offices of Her Honour Elizabeth Dowdeswell Lieutenant Governor of Ontario as part of the Government of Ontario Art Collection.
YOUNG WORLD En-light Collections
YOUNG WORLD EN-LIGHT is an experiment in communication and a study of culture experienced through the contemporary photography and documentary filmmaking of Robert Young. Through these international still and moving images Young celebrates the nuances that make us unique and uses this expression to close the gap of understanding between us. This ongoing body of work features multiple sub-series captured in Asia, Africa, The Americas, and Europe, that include: Abstraction, Cap•i•tal, En Medellín, Freetown Reborn, Lucent Aura, Neighbors, Once Assembled, Relativity and Riverside District.
CAP•I•TAL
Mission Statement
CAP•I•TAL showcases the historic and iconic visual experiences of the United States of America’s capital, Washington DC. In particular, the series focuses on the iconic architecture along the National Mall. The images were taken from a very low but close angle to present a heroic perspective intended to further exemplify the sheer size of these iconic landmarks and the ideals and icons they represent. These dynamic images intend to remind us of the power of Adaptation that has been the common thread of American life through both prosperous and turbulent times.
As seen in public activations in Washington DC neighborhoods of NoMa, Shaw, Navy Yard, Capital Hill and Union Market.
Solo Works
Abstraction
Mission statement
“When we stop and take a closer look at our surroundings we may find not only beauty but inspiration ...in the simplest of things.
Photographed in Canada, China, France + Singapore.
En Medellín
Mission Statement
A photography exposition on one of the most culturally transformed cities in the world.
Photographed in Colombia.
The still images in this series were captured while I was living in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia. While there, I had the opportunity to partake in weeks of celebratory preparations for the city’s largest cultural festival and parade, Feria De Flores. Needless to say I filmed almost everything I experienced for prosterity.
Freetown Reborn: Axiom Of Beauty
Mission Statement
“Freedom in body, pain in mind, history filled with regrets. Moving in pictures, speaking in poetics, communication reminds who forgets. Dreams in reality, strength in faith, love will not allow a sequel. Forward in thinking, futuristic in belief, true beauty shifts perspective of the people.”
Photographed in Sierra Leone West Africa.
The still images in this series were captured while I was in Sierra Leone filming a documentary just a year and a half after their 11-year, blood diamond fueled civil war. The documentary covered War Child’s Canada’s implementation of a $160K donation for programing and admin support to local NGO (AUCAYD) Artist United For Children and Youth Development. Watch Freetown Reborn below.
Lucent Aura
Mission Statement
“It is in the illumination of things, places, people, that we recognize the meaning of life. The”light” is a powerful tool but it is what it shines upon that engages us and invites us to exchange precious energy.”
Photographed in Canada, Hong Kong, France + USA.
Neighbours
Mission Statement
Revealing common ground through the exploration of Belonging, via The Esplanade, one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in all of Canada.
Photographed in Canada. As seen at the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival.
Relativity
Mission Statement
“When life begins to move so fast that everything becomes a blur, follow the light back to its point of origin and there you will find focus.”
Photographed in the United States of America
Riverside District
Mission Statement
An exposition of one of Toronto’s oldest and most eclectic neighborhoods.
Photographed in Canada.
Series is part of the public art collection of the Riverside BIA
Purpose
My mission is to “Capture Life’s Passion” so that I may “Curate Life Through The Language Of Design.”
To that end, I am a contemporary artist who draws on my diverse experience in storytelling, via literature and documentary filmmaking, to create communicative photographic works, curated contemporary art exhibitions and large-scale corporate experiential activations.
I have displayed works and produced interactive engagements throughout the Americas including Canada, the United States, Colombia and the Caribbean. My works are held in private, corporate, and public collections throughout North America.
